03 Jul Facebook and Your Car Wreck Case
Most people in today’s society have some type of social media account. Through my practice I have noticed that the primary social media outlet that people use in eastern Kentucky is Facebook. People want to use social media to share details about their lives with all of their friends. If you are involved in an automobile accident, you may want to share details of your accident with your friends on social media and even post photographs of your injuries and/or property damage. However, sharing details about your auto accident case on Facebook or any other social media outlet can be devastating to your case. At Millward & Castle, PLLC we advise all of our clients to not use Facebook at all during the pendency of their auto accident claim.
We advise all of our clients to not use Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or Twitter after an accident. I guarantee that insurance adjusters will be viewing all of your social media outlets to find information they can use against you in your case.
An insurance adjuster can download information off your Facebook page or other social media outlet that may show you having dinner with friends and you may appear to be happy and doing well from the photograph; however, in reality, you are not doing well due to the injuries you sustained in your automobile accident. An insurance adjuster can take this information from your Facebook page or other social media outlet and use this information to dispute the extent of your injury that you are claiming in your automobile accident case. This is one example of many as to why you should not post anything on your social media account following an accident.
In the event you are involved in an automobile accident, the best thing you can do is avoid posting information on your social media account entirely. In addition, you should ask your friends and family to refrain from posting information about your wreck on Facebook.
